Advocate suicide: Lawyers protest demanding action against SDM, police officers

Jaipur: A day after an advocate suicide by setting himself on fire in Khandela town of Sikar district committed – over alleged harassment by the local SDM, the community of lawyers in Jaipur staged an aggressive protest. The lawyers blocked the roads outside the Rajasthan High Court on Jan Path and the sessions court demanding a high-level inquiry into the incident. They demanded strict action against the SDM and local police officers who allegedly threatened the victim, Hansraj Mavliya. Outside the sessions court, they blocked the road with trees. Member of Parliament Hanuman Beniwal also joined the protest. He said that if the government didn’t take action on the matter within 24 hours, the protest would be intensified. Lawyers raised slogans of ‘Gehlot Murdabad’ outside the High Court. Lawyer, Hansraj Mavliya, left a suicide note in which he levelled serious allegations against the SDM. In the suicide note, he accused SDM Rakesh Kumar of harassment. He stated that SDM Rakesh Kumar demanded money from him for deciding the stay cases in his favour. He also accused SDM of misbehaving with him. In the suicide note, Malviya also accused Khandela SHO Ghashiram of harassment. On Thursday, Hansraj brought petrol with him. When SDM Rakesh Kumar entered his office, the lawyer poured petrol on himself and followed him. He then set himself on fire. SDM Rakesh Kumar pushed the lawyer away to rescue himself. In this attempt, he also sustained burn injuries on his hand. The lawyer was rushed to a hospital in Jaipur, but succumbed to burn injuries on the way.
